Storage Shed Construction Built to Last in Panama City, FL

All of our storage buildings include a heavy-duty wood floor system made of ¾-inch tongue and groove plywood with a dry ply sealant, nailed down with 3” 16d galvanized nails (not stapled). The floor system is attached to structural skids, allowing the building to be leveled and installed on a variety of site conditions.

Concreate slabs for portable sheds in Panama City, FL

Concrete Slab Installation

Buildings can be installed on a 4-inch thick, monolithic, termite-treated concrete slab with footers. The skids rest on the slab, providing a stable, level base for long-term use.

Ground Installation With Anchors

For ground installations, the building is blocked, leveled, and secured using 4’ helical mobile home anchors placed around the perimeter of the building.

Gravel Pad Installation

Gravel pads provide a stable, well-drained base that helps reduce moisture and settling over time while still allowing the building to remain portable.

Wood Floor System

The wood floor system we utilize for our storage sheds is blocked up, leveled, and tied down with 4’ helical mobile home anchors. These anchors, rated for Class 2 soil, are placed every eight feet around the perimeter of your building.

The wood floor framing system is supported by 4×6 skids, which make your building portable. The skids rest on leveling pads and blocking, such as 18” × 18” Lexan mobile home pads, or on gravel bases or concrete slabs depending on the installation and site conditions.

Portable Storage Building Frequently Asked Questions

  • How much do portable storage sheds cost in Florida?

Carport and motorhome cover posts are typically installed 4 feet into the ground and secured with concrete to provide stability and wind resistance. Post depth and concrete footings are especially important in Florida, where structures must withstand strong winds and storms. Proper post installation helps prevent shifting, leaning or structural movement over time.

  • What is the best base for a storage shed in Florida?

In many cases, yes. If an existing concrete slab is large enough, thick enough and structurally sound, a carport can often be anchored directly to the slab instead of installing posts into the ground. The slab must be thick enough and in good condition to support anchors. If the slab is not suitable, posts may need to be installed into the ground nearby instead.

  • Are portable storage buildings anchored for wind in Florida?

Yes, they should be. We anchor our portable buildings using helical anchors or similar tie-down systems when installed on soil or gravel. Portable buildings installed on concrete slabs are typically secured to the slab using anchor bolts rather than ground anchors.

These anchoring methods help secure the building against movement and uplift, which is especially important for our clients near the Gulf Coast due to frequent high winds and storm conditions.

  • How close to a property line can I put a storage shed in Panama City, Florida?

Panama City and Bay County setback rules vary by zoning district. For example, in many single-family residential areas, accessory structures like storage sheds typically must be set back around 5 feet from side property lines and roughly 5–10 feet from rear property lines, with larger setbacks sometimes required on larger or rural lots.

Storage buildings also cannot be placed within utility or drainage easements and usually must be located behind the front of the house.

Because these rules can vary depending on the specific property and zoning, building placement is often determined during the site planning process. If you already have a location in mind, our team can help you determine whether that placement will work based on typical Panama City and Bay County setback requirements.

  • How long do portable storage buildings last in Florida weather?

The lifespan of a portable storage building depends on the materials used, installation method, site drainage and maintenance. Buildings constructed with aluminum siding and properly installed on a stable base can last for decades, even in Florida’s heat, humidity and coastal conditions.

Material quality and anchoring are key to longevity near the Gulf Coast. If you install a DIY storage shed or a portable building without adequate tie-down or bolting, the lifespan of your shed may be until the next moderately powerful storm.

  • Can a storage shed be placed directly on the ground?

Storage sheds should not be placed directly on bare ground without leveling and support. Most buildings are installed on leveling pads, blocking, gravel pads or concrete slabs to keep the structure level, improve drainage and reduce the risk of settling over time.

The real risk with ground contact is moisture damage and pests. Some elevation and effective drainage are essentially a requirement if you want your shed to last.

  • What sizes do storage sheds come in?

Storage buildings are available in a wide range of sizes, from small utility sheds to larger buildings used for workshops, equipment storage or garages. Many buildings can also be customized with different door locations, window placements and layout options to fit your needs and available space.

  • Can electricity be added to a portable storage building?

Many portable buildings can include basic electrical components such as a light and an outlet, but the customer is typically responsible for connecting the building to power. A licensed electrician can run power to the building after installation.

  • How long does it take to install a storage shed?

For installations on gravel bases or leveling pads, the building is typically delivered and installed the same day. For concrete slab installations, the slab must be poured and allowed to cure (typically several days to a week depending on load) before the building is delivered and placed on the foundation.

The actual delivery and positioning typically does not take very long. Setup is usually completed within a few hours.

  • What site preparation is needed before installing a storage shed?

Site preparation usually involves making sure the area is level, accessible for delivery and properly drained. In some cases, customers may choose to install a gravel pad or concrete slab before installation. Proper site preparation helps prevent settling, drainage problems and long-term structural issues.

  • Can a portable storage building be moved later?

Yes, one advantage of portable buildings is that they can often be moved to a new location later if needed. Because the building is constructed on skids, it can typically be relocated, although moving larger buildings may require special equipment and planning.
